19th Hongkong Bank Foundation Elite Coaches Seminar 2011 - 2012 (Revised on 20 January 2012)
The "19th Hongkong Bank Foundation Elite Coaches Seminar" will be held on 25 February 2012 (Saturday) at the Regal Riverside Hotel, Shatin. This is an annual event jointly organised by the Hong Kong Coaching Committee and the All-China Sports Federation.
The theme for this year's Seminar is "Preparation for Olympics". We are very honoured to have renowned professionals from China, Japan, United Kingdom and Hong Kong sharing their expertise with us at the Seminar.

Football and Hockey (new sport)
This year, the Hong Kong Coaching Committee, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Football Association and Hong Kong Hockey Association will organise the SCAP on these two sporting events during 2 November- 17 December 2011. The Programme aims to provide school teachers with the opportunity to obtain formal training and accreditation in coaching. This summer, more than 140 teachers have participated in the Programme.

International Scientific Symposium - Sport psychology application
It has long been acknowledged that
sport psychology is critical for athletes at elite level. Sport psychology can
help athletes enhance their learning process and motor skills, cope with
competitive pressure and stay focused in the competitive environment, increase
their motivation as well as build confidence. Moreover, sport psychology also
focuses on the social-cultural aspects of athletes including athletes¡¦ career
development and transitions, and cultural diversity. This annual event,
organised by the Hong Kong Sports Institute, brings together international
experts to share their knowledge and experience in using psychology to support
training and rehabilitation, enhance performance, and assist in talent
identification and career transition. The Symposium will be held on 6 ¡V 7
November 2011 (Sunday and Monday). Hong Kong Coaching Committee has
approved 11.25 hours for renewal as accredited coaches for those attending all

This year, the Hong Kong Coaching Committee, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Badminton Association, Hong Kong Basketball Association, Hong Kong Squash Association, Hong Kong Table Tennis Association and Volleyball Association of Hong Kong, China will organise the SCAP on these five sports specific courses during 13 - 29 July 2011. The Programme aims to provide school teachers with the opportunity to obtain formal training and accreditation in coaching. Over 1900 teachers have participated in this Programme.

Over 100 awards were given to top coaches at the Hongkong Bank Foundation Coaching Awards Presentation held at the InterContinental Hong Kong on 17 April 2011 (Sunday). Coaches received due recognition for their dedication and contribution behind the scene to bring sporting talents to excellence in the sporting arena.
The six categories of Awards are namely Coach of the Year Awards, Distinguished Services Award for Coaching, Coaching Excellence Awards, Best Team Sport Coach Award, Coach Education Award and Community Coach Recognition Awards.

Elite Sport Training Summit
Elite sport training in the 21st century: Creating new insights and partnerships for co-development 
Elite sport training system refers to the infrastructure and practices used to systematically and strategically identify, develop and prepare athletes for international success. A range of factors contributes to sporting success and it has been a constant challenge for elite training center leaders, coaches, scientists and administrators who are continuously refining their strategies to achieve elite outcomes. The Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) will organise a symposium on 18 March 2011 for coaches, athletes, scientists, officials and administrators to share knowledge and experience in this area. HKSI has the pleasure of inviting leaders of the National Sports Institute of Malaysia and the Singapore Sports Council to present keynote addresses at the symposium. Hong Kong Coaching Committee has approved 3 hours for renewal as accredited coaches for those attending all keynote presentations of the symposium. Accredited Coaches' Column Calls for Contribution to HKSI's Sports Excellence
Sports Excellence, the official newsletter of the HKSI which is published three times a year in Ming Pao, will open a new column exclusively for coaches starting from the next issue.
Accredited coaches are welcome to send in/ contribute their own articles for publication. We are open to topics, but a more personal touch and/ or softer approach is preferred. The followings are some topic ideas you may consider:
- Your coaching philosophy
- What has motivated you as a coach
- Your experience in coaching Hong Kong athletes / students
- How the HKCC helps you develop your coaching career
- Difficulties of being a coach in Hong Kong and how you overcome them
- Unforgettable moments in your coaching career
- Your view on Hong Kong's sports development
Your contribution should be original, written by yourself and in around 500 words each, preferably in Chinese. Photo with at least 1MB in size to complement the articles are also welcome. To ensure the quality and suitability for publication, the HKSI reserves the right to publish and edit, but would try to keep the flair and style of the original work.

With effect from 1 May 2010, three new channels would be offered to accredited coaches for accumulating sufficient continuing education hours in a faster way ¡V teach non Sports-Specific courses, seminars or workshops, serve as coaching committee member in the National Sports Associations, as well as author of peer-reviewed books or journal articles in non Sports-Specific areas.

Hongkong Bank Foundation School Coach Accreditation Programme (SCAP) 2009 - 2010
Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Squash (New Event) and Table Tennis
This year, the Hong Kong Coaching Committee, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Amateur Athletic Association, Hong Kong Badminton Association, Hong Kong Basketball Association, Hong Kong Squash and Hong Kong Table Tennis Association will organise the SCAP on these five sporting events during 15 - 30 July 2009. The Programme aims to provide school teachers with the opportunity to obtain formal training and accreditation in coaching. Last year, more than 170 teachers have participated in the Programme.

The Hong Kong Sports Institute - The Hong Kong Jockey Club Sports Medicine and Health Sciences Centre Exchange Forum on Preparing Athletes for Major Games
The unprecedented achievement of Mainland China in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games has positioned China as one of the world sports powerhouses. To share the successful experiences in preparing athletes for the Beijing Olympics, the Hong Kong Sports Institute is organising an exchange forum, with speakers from the General Administration of Sport of China and four major Mainland sports institutions, to be held on Saturday, 30 May at the Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Centre.
The forum is co-organised by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, and The Hong Kong Jockey Club Sports Medicine and Health Sciences Centre. Topics will start from the framework of training strategies and sport science and medicine support to athletes for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, and extend the scope of discussion to Hong Kong's experiences in preparing athletes for the upcoming major games, including the 2009 East Asian Games. Keynote presentations will be followed by an open forum to enhance the exchange of expertise and insight in better preparing Hong Kong's elite athletes to succeed on the world stage.

Outstanding Coaches Recognised at the 2008 Hongkong Bank Foundation Coaching Awards
Over 90 awards in six categories were given to top coaches at the Hongkong Bank Foundation Coaching Awards Presentation held at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong on 19 April 2009 (Sunday). Coaches received due recognition for their dedication and contribution behind the scene to bring sporting talents to excellence in the sporting arena.
The six categories of Awards are namely Coach of the Year Awards, Distinguished Services Award for Coaching, Coach Education Award, Best Team Sport Award, Coaching Excellence Awards, and Community Coach Recognition Awards.

2008 Hongkong Bank Foundation Coaching Awards - List of Nominees
Over 120 shortlisted nominations from National Sports Associations and community sports clubs for the 2008 Hongkong Bank Foundation Coaching Awards. The Awards Scheme is the only territory-wide programme that recognises the contributions of coaches, from community to elite level. Awards in six categories of excellence will be conferred at the Awards Presentation Ceremony to be held on 19 April at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong.

International Scientific Symposium
The Hong Kong Sports Institute will hold the 4th International Scientific Symposium on Saturday, 21 March 2009 in Hong Kong, with the theme Sportswear for elite performance enhancement. The symposium will bring together international and local experts to share knowledge on the role of sportswear in elite performance enhancement, and technological advancements in respect to sportswear design and manufacturing in Hong Kong. The Accredited Coach Renewal Scheme
With effect from 1 September 2008, all accredited coaches will be issued with a "Coach Accreditation Card" together with a "Coach Logbook", with a validity of FOUR years upon completion of the Sports-General Theory (Part A) course. Accredited coaches' portrait, accreditation level, and validity period etc. will be displayed on the accreditation card. To maintain a valid "accreditation" status with the HKCC, accredited coaches are required to accumulate sufficient hours of continuing coach education activities in order to meet the renewal requirement.

Supplement use is common among athletes as it may help to meet specific physiological or nutritional needs that enhances sports performance. However, athletes should be aware of the ingredients of the supplement that may lead to a positive doping test. This seminar lists the potential danger of using supplement and highlights the precautions. Nowadays, the fight against doping no longer depends solely on evidences from the laboratory. Athletes and coaches may fall into the trap of inadvertent anti-doping rule violations if they are not familiar with the current regulations. The seminar will also use doping cases to illustrate the need for practical advices for athletes and coaches.

To celebrate and mark the 10th anniversary of the Hongkong Bank Foundation School Coach Accreditation Programme, the Hong Kong Coaching Committee will set up specific awards to recognise the contribution of school coaches. There are two categories of Awards:
- SCAP Accredited School Coach Awards
- School Coach Awards (PE Teacher Category)
