The Hongkong Bank Foundation Coach Accrediation Programme (CAP)

The CAP is concerned with the development and accreditation of coaches in Hong Kong and operates at three levels. The first Level 1 course was organised in July 1991 while Level 2 and 3 courses were initiated in January 1992 and January 1994 respectively. Each Level is consisted of four parts (A, B, C & D). Part A is concerned with Sports-General Theory and is conducted by the Coach Education Department on behalf of the HKCC. Part B, C and D consist of Sports-Specific components and are conducted by NSAs with HKSI funding.

  • Part A - Sports-General Theory (conducted by Coach Education Department)
  • Part B - Sports-Specific Theory (conducted by NSAs with HKSI funding)
  • Part C - Sports-Specific Practical (conducted by NSAs with HKSI funding)
  • Part D - Sports-Specific coaching experience (conducted by NSAs with HKSI funding)

All Part A courses are conducted in Cantonese while English course could be arranged if sufficient number of participants is met.

Entrance Requirements / Enrollment

  • Participants are required to complete the Sports-Specific (Parts B to D) components and to be nominated by NSAs for the Sports-General Theory (Part A) course;
  • Participants nominated for Level 2 or Level 3 Sports-General Theory (Part A) course should have successfully completed the previous level which include Parts A, B, C and D.
  • For enrollment, please contact your respective NSAs.
  • For these whose have successfully enrolled to the CAP are required to fulfill the attendance requirement for the eligility of taking the CAP examination - Attendance & Assessment Policy

 

CAP Financial Assistance Scheme (with effective from 1 April 2006)

  • The Financial Assistance Scheme aims to provide subsidies for CAP Sports-General Theory (Part A) Level 1 participants who have financial hardship in gaining entry to the sports coaching industry.
  • Course fee will be refunded in full if the applicants fulfill the following requirements:
    1. Current beneficiary of the "Comprehensive Social Security Assistance" (CSSA) granted by the HKSAR; AND
    2. Successfully completed the CAP Sports-General Theory (Part A) course and passed in the examination
  • Applicants should complete the application form (CAP/FAS/2006) and send together with certified true copies of documentary evidence of financial hardship to the Coach Education Department at least three months prior to the commencement of the course. The Scheme is open for application throughout the year.

CAP Scholarship Scheme (with effective from 1 April 2006)

  • The aim of the CAP Scholarship Scheme is to encourage and recognize the outstanding performance of participants at the Sports-General Theory (Part A) courses at all 3 levels.
  • A maximum of three participants at each level of courses who have got the highest score on the examination will be awarded each year.
  • To be eligible for the Scholarship, participants should score at least 90% of the total marks in order to be considered as a recipient.
  • A certificate of merit together with book coupons will be awarded.

 

Exemption Policy (last updated in May 2011)

  • With effective from January 2006, applicants are required to complete the application form (ExForm/07) and send together with certified true copies of documentary evidence of relevant qualifications (e.g. Certificates, Official transcripts, etc.) and a non-refundable administration/assessment fee to the Coach Education Department for processing.
