ACCREDITED COACH RENEWAL SCHEME (ACRS)

(Effective Date: 1 September 2008)

 

The Scheme

With effect from 1 September 2008, all accredited coaches will be issued with a "Coach Accreditation Card" together with a "Coach Logbook", with a validity of FOUR years upon completion of the Sports-General Theory (Part A) course. Accredited coaches' portrait, accreditation level, and validity period etc. will be displayed on the accreditation card. To maintain a valid "accreditation" status with the HKCC, accredited coaches are required to accumulate sufficient hours of continuing coach education activities in order to meet the renewal requirement. Requirements for accredited coach renewal for each level (within the 4-year cycle):


Level No. of hours of Continuing Coach Education Activities

Level 1

A minimum of 24 hours OR attained Level 2 of Sports-General Theory (Part A) Course

Level 2

A minimum of 36 hours OR attained Level 3 of Sports-General Theory (Part A) Course

Level 3

A minimum of 48 hours


Coaches who fail to fulfill the above requirements will need to re-take the relevant level of CAP in order to re-activate the accredited coach status.

 

Recognised Continuing Coach Education Activities
  1. The activity must be Non Sports-Specific continuing coach education programme (courses/seminars/workshops) in the following areas (in alphabetical order):

    • Biomechanics
    • Coaching Techniques
    • First Aid
    • Health Fitness
    • Human Anatomy and Physiology
    • Kinesiology
    • Legal Aspects in Sports Coaching
    • Motor Learning
    • Nutrition
    • Special Population Training
    • Sports Administration
    • Sports Injury
    • Sports Management
    • Sports Massage/Acupressure
    • Sports Medicine
    • Sports Philosophy
    • Sports Prescription
    • Sports Psychology
    • Sports Science
    • Sports Sociology
    • Sports Talent Identification
    • Test & Measurement of Sports Attributes
  2. Such Non Sports-Specific continuing coach education activities must be organised/delivered by recognised sports or education-related organisations in Hong Kong, Mainland China or overseas.


  3. The continuing coach education activities attended should include at least 2 different areas among the above within the 4-year cycle.

 

Update on Continuing Coach Education Hours Earning Methods

With Effective from 1 May 2010, the policy on accumulating the continuing coach education (CCE) hours for the ACRS will be updated as follows:

  • Fractions of CCE Hours, down to a minimum of 15 minutes, may be earned in increments of 0.25 hours, i.e., 15 minutes for 0.25 hours, 30 minutes for 0.5 hours, 45 minutes for 0.75 hours. (Seminars/workshops should last at least 30 minutes or above)
  • The HKCC will have full discretion to adjust the criteria. In case of disputes, the HKCC reserves the final decision.

 

Implementation Schedule & Procedure

Newly-Accredited Coaches

  • From 1 September 2008, all newly-accredited coaches will receive a Certificate, a "Coach Accreditation Card" together with a "Coach Logbook" after the completion of the Sports-General Theory (Part A) course.
Existing Accredited Coaches
  • CAP accredited coaches qualified before 1 September 2008 may obtain a new Sports-General Theory Certificate, a "Coach Accreditation Card" and a "Coach Logbook" free of charge according to the following schedule:

  • Replacement Procedure
    1. Existing CAP coaches can submit the following documents to the HKCC *in person or by post according to the designated period:
      a) Completed application form (click here to download);
      b) Original copy of the highest level Sports-General Theory Certificate;
      c) One photo of 1.5"W x 2"H (blue background) taken within recent 3 months.; and
      d) Two stamped (HK$1.4 stamp) and self-addressed envelopes. (Not applicable for applicant choosing to collect acknowledgement letter through E-mail)

      * For submitting application in person, please seal then deposit the above documents into the designated drop-in box at the reception of the Hong Kong Sports Institute during the below office hours:

    2. Upon receipt and verification of all of the above documents, the HKCC will process the application. Applicants will be informed in writing for collection of the new certificate, "Coach Accreditation Card" and "Coach Logbook".


    3. Accredited coaches not obtaining their new "Coach Accreditation Card" within the specific period will have to re-take the relevant level of CAP in order to re-activate the accredited coach status. All old Sports-General Theory Certificates will become invalid after the respective replacement periods.

 

ACRS Fees
  • All accredited coaches will receive their first "Coach Accreditation Card" and "Coach Logbook" free of charge. Thereafter, renewal fee will be HK$200 for every four years.

 

Renewal Procedure
  1. After CAP coaches have attained the required hours of continuing coach education activities, they may submit the following documents to the HKCC in person or by post at least 2 months (but not more than 12 months) prior to the expiry date:

    a) Completed application form;
    b) Copy of the "Coach Accreditation Card";
    c) "Coach Logbook";
    d) Certified true copy of the certificates/attendance certificates of the continuing coach education courses/seminars/workshops listed out in the "Coach Logbook". Except activities organised by the HKCC, supporting documents should be provided for proving the no. of hours attended;
    e) One photo of 1.5"W x 2"H (blue background) taken within recent 3 months;
    f) Two stamped (HK$1.4 stamp) and self-addressed envelopes; and
    g) Renewal fee HK$200 (crossed cheque payable to the "Hong Kong Sports Institute Limited").

  2. Upon receipt and verification of all of the above documents, the HKCC will process the application. Applicants will be informed in writing for collection of the new certificate, "Coach Accreditation Card" and "Coach Logbook".

 

Loss of Sports-General Theory Certificate, Coach Accreditation Card or Coach Logbook
  • Reissuing fee for each item would be HK$100.
